Over a year has passed since I have appeared here on my blog/website. What has happened? Well, basically everything.
I had my very own shop for a year. I was very unsure of myself at first, then slowly built up my own confidence, and finally had something I was, (and still am), proud to say was all mine. It was visited by some very lovely and wonderful people. I made a few friends. And then the year was over and gone.
I threw my back out in the process of moving everything back into the house. The quiet time needed to restore my back forced me to slow down for a bit and reflect on everything. I realized how much time I actually spent at the store. (It was just me, six days a week 10AM to 8PM (12 – 5 on Sundays). Huh.) I loved finding my own look and feel for my store. It was quite fun talking to my customers. My house is now terribly dusty. There is a lot to enjoy about retail. I still have not lost those thirty pounds. And my dachshunds could use a diet too. On a related subject, I missed cooking. What’s more, I had stopped making any new jewelry early last November and have not returned to my clay. I want to move my creations to the next level but how? and what? it will be fun and challenging to find my new direction. And the living room carpet really must be removed and replaced with bamboo flooring.
As you can see, I’ve had plenty to contemplate.
I’ve made small steps as my back has healed. Mainly the household stuff: The house considerably less dusty, I’ve been cooking to my heart’s delight, the younger of my 2 dachshund girls is looking leaner and trimmer already (the older gal has taken to glaring at me. I know how she feels). This week I have renewed my site (this one) and will soon be listing items on Etsy with links here. (These are items I had in my store but not online, or else I just showed them on my Instagram account (vmcheski if you’re interested!).).
I have a lot more to catch up on, but hey, its a new start. Again.
I’ve heard a horrible rumor…okay a fact. It is nearly the end of October! What Have I Been Doing? Swell question. I’ve been tending my dear shop. Dave (husband) and I went on a fantastic vacation to Canada. (Bought too much stuff.). Doted on our already much loved dachshund girls. Swore to lose 30 pounds (again! One of these days I actually will). Made jewelry to put in my aforementioned shop. Most recently, I restarted my Etsy shop. I’ve just started adding some of my newest items. Here’s one I want to show you:
This is comprised of my handmade polymer clay disc beads and these gorgeous peacock, (I’ve also seen them listed as rainbow), druzy beads.
Well, that’s the first of what I hope to be many new listings!
I’ll keep you posted!
Last month something unexpected and marvelous happened.
I opened my very own shop – Valerie Cheski/ Polymer Clay. Well, actually I never started out with that intention.
Here’s what happened…..
In early August, I was accepted as a vender at a 9 day arts/crafts event at my very favorite, very local, shopping mall, The Shops at Worthington Place. The participants were allowed to set up in empty store fronts. (A brief aside….The Shops at Worthington Place has suffered the same fate as so many of this country’s malls – shops have disappeared/closed due to the cumulation of so many factors. This is a lovely and well maintained mall…just with a few empty stores.). To my absolute delight, I was allowed to set up in a gorgeous formerly mega-expensive jewelry store. (I mean the cases all lock and everything!). I settled in – obviously not nearly filling the place but nicely spread out – and worked silly long 10 hour days. Toward the end of this time, mall management approached us with an opportunity: Stay to the end of the year. The mall will be full thru the holidays and we have the chance – short term – of having our own store(s)! The one caveat: fill these shops up! Um. Well. Some arts/crafts people had teamed up so for them, with a little hustle, they could present a bursting place. Me? I had always been on my own and this was a jewelry shop so….. hey! It hit me like a thunderbolt. I could indeed produce More jewelry and bowls, but what if I brought in …Books! Bright and beautiful, (and a dandy way to pass the time), I could fill in space and bring back
used Preread Collectible Book shopping!
And so it happened! Welcome to my artisan jewelry and collectible book store! If you are anywhere near Worthington OH., please stop by!
