Harry Pottering

I just realized I haven’t blogged for a over a week.

I haven’t listed anything new on my Etsy site.

I haven’t IG’ed. (Is that a verb now? Don’t know.)

It isn’t that I am depressed, or sad, or really even that busy with holiday preparations. I just haven’t, well, felt like it. No reason. I just seem to want sit on the couch with a nice cup of coffee or wine depending on the time of day.

Whenever I am in one of these moods, (shall I call it a malaise? a funk? sulking? – no – all those are sorta right and sorta wrong), I reach for my Harry Potter books.

I know I am a grown up. (Very grown up if the truth be told.) But there are indeed times when to escape to J. K. Rowling’s world is just what I seem to need. I’ll pick a book at random and keep reading until it is time to stop. And I’ll realize it is time blog, list items in Etsy, and in general, come back to reality. This time, I’m just in time for the holiday!

A peek at the last pair of earrings I listed:

Restless

I can’t focus today. Restless. At sixes and sevens. Even so, I’ve decided to sit down and try to concentrate. Maybe writing will help me back on track.

I thought a bit of yoga would help. I pulled out the mat and cued up my favorite follow-at-home-yoga on youtube. I lit my brand new wonderful meditation candle (from StarDustRemedies). Lastly, before I started, I bribed our dogs into their kennels (they are very sweet and try very hard to help me in my positions. (Although I think they may actually be giggling at me.)). I turned on the video and heard *Snort* . I replied “yoga girls”.

“Welcome my friends. lets sit in a…”,
*snortal* / “yoga girl”,
“comfortable position. Breathe deeply, filling…”,
*yarp* / “yoga”,
“all sides of the lungs..”,
**arf** / “Yoga”,
“Exhale completely…”
***Woofel!***
“YOGA!!!”

I did the moves anyway. I say ‘moves’ because I can’t really say my focus was there.

On the bright side, I’ve just realized how late in the afternoon it is. Must be happy hour. And there’s wine chilling in the frig. Best idea I’ve had all day. Yep, I’ll try blogging tomorrow. or the next day.

P. S. a bracelet for today:

Ooops

I made a mistake today. I thought I had to work 12 -8. Did my usual morning routine, said byebye to Dave and my dogs, drove to work. To find out my shift actually starts at 4p. Ooops and yipee! Even though one manager and one supervisor offered to find ‘stuff’ for me to do, I ran for it! I feel like a kid being sent home early from school because the snow was falling too fast.

What to do?

Well, there are Golden Girls reruns that could be watched. Start work on a special order. Coffee and a snack? Yes to it all!

Even though I will have to drive back soon.. what a treat!

By the way… Another piece from my Etsy shop:

Have fun today… at least for a couple of hours…

delightful

There is something absolutely delightful about staying home on – as Pooh would say – a blustery day. I was going to go to this coffee shop I know. I’ve been there once, it was very pleasant. I wanted to make it a Thursday morning thing. This Thursday morning it was blustery, but the rain had stopped. I decided make myself presentable and drive to the coffee shop. No mocha today, just a nice coffee. I dressed and looked out to rain/sleet/snow. Suddenly the shop seemed oh so far away and my own coffee pot was so nearby. Today I’ll have to make my own and cuddle the dogs.

Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Small Business Saturday

I am still in shock but…. Thanksgiving is this coming Thursday!!!! How crazy is that?? So…just to let you know:
The Shops at Worthington Place will be closed on November 23, Thanksgiving Day.
Our hours will be 9 am-9 pm on Black Friday (November 24) and Small Business Saturday (November 25).

Have a great Thanksgiving and happy shopping!

Is that right?

I’ve heard a horrible rumor…okay a fact.  It is nearly the end of October!  What Have I Been Doing?  Swell question.  I’ve been tending my dear shop.  Dave (husband) and I went on a fantastic vacation to Canada.  (Bought too much stuff.).  Doted on our already much loved dachshund girls.   Swore to lose 30 pounds (again! One of these days I actually will).  Made jewelry to put in my aforementioned shop.  Most recently, I restarted my Etsy shop.   I’ve just started adding some of my newest items.  Here’s one I want to show you:

Chunky and Asymmetrical handmade polymer clay and peacock druzy statement necklace

This is comprised of my handmade polymer clay disc beads and these gorgeous peacock, (I’ve also seen them listed as rainbow), druzy beads.

Well, that’s the first of what I hope to be many new listings!

I’ll keep you posted!

Welcome to my shop

Last month something unexpected and marvelous happened.
I opened my very own shop – Valerie Cheski/ Polymer Clay. Well, actually I never started out with that intention.

Here’s what happened…..

In early August, I was accepted as a vender at a 9 day arts/crafts event at my very favorite, very local, shopping mall, The Shops at Worthington Place. The participants were allowed to set up in empty store fronts. (A brief aside….The Shops at Worthington Place has suffered the same fate as so many of this country’s malls – shops have disappeared/closed due to the cumulation of so many factors. This is a lovely and well maintained mall…just with a few empty stores.). To my absolute delight, I was allowed to set up in a gorgeous formerly mega-expensive jewelry store. (I mean the cases all lock and everything!). I settled in – obviously not nearly filling the place but nicely spread out – and worked silly long 10 hour days. Toward the end of this time, mall management approached us with an opportunity: Stay to the end of the year. The mall will be full thru the holidays and we have the chance – short term – of having our own store(s)! The one caveat: fill these shops up! Um. Well. Some arts/crafts people had teamed up so for them, with a little hustle, they could present a bursting place. Me? I had always been on my own and this was a jewelry shop so….. hey! It hit me like a thunderbolt. I could indeed produce More jewelry and bowls, but what if I brought in …Books! Bright and beautiful, (and a dandy way to pass the time), I could fill in space and bring back used Preread Collectible Book shopping!

And so it happened! Welcome to my artisan jewelry and collectible book store! If you are anywhere near Worthington OH., please stop by!
